Earlier today, Hollywood legend Robin Williams passed away at the age of 63.

Williams is probably best known for his comedic work, whether it be on TV shows like Mork and Mindy or in films like Mrs. Doubtfire, The Birdcage, and Aladdin.

While I basically love everything Williams has ever done in entertainment, I actually think my favorite roles he portrayed were the ones that no one would expect him to do.

The two roles that immediately come to mind, as a fan of the horror and thriller genres, are Insomnia and One Hour Photo.

Insomnia was released in 2002 and starred Al Pacino and Hilary Swank, alongside Williams. The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, was the story of two Los Angeles detectives investing a murder in Alaska.

Williams plays a very creepy crime writer named Walter Finch, who is heavily involved in the investigation. You can see the trailer for Insomnia below:

One Hour Photo, also released in 2002, starred Williams as Sy Parrish, a photo technician at a one-hour photo booth.

Parrish's job is his life and he sets out to make sure he gives his customers the best photos possible. One customer that Parrish grows fond of is a family, who continuously brought their photos to Parrish over the years.

Parrish begins to envy the love this family has and decides to print duplicates of their photos to have for himself. During one photo developing session, Parrish comes across photos of Mr. Yorkin having an affair. It is at this point, that Parrish begins to despise Mr. Yorkin, because he has everything Parrish wants but doesn't appreciate it.

Parrish then takes it upon himself to show Mr. Yorkin the error of his ways. You can see the trailer for One Hour Photo below:

As great a comedic actor as Williams was, I think these two roles truly make him a legend. The level of creepiness that Williams was able to embody, when most people only considered him a comedic actor, is absolutely astonishing.

I am truly sad that we will never have the opportunity to see new work from Robin Williams, once his final films are released.

The entertainment world has lost one of the greats. R.I.P. Robin Williams. You will be missed.
