Following an extensive battle with cancer, longtime ESPN personality Stuart Scott passed away early Sunday morning, January 4th, at the age of 49.

Stuart Scott joined ESPN over 20 years ago, in 1993, as a member of the inaugural staff at ESPN2. From there, Scott became one of the most well known anchor's for ESPN's flagship program, SportsCenter, with his countless catch phrases, including 'Booyah!' and 'As cool as the other side of the pillow.'

In 2007, Scott was diagnosed with cancer, according to The Bleacher Report. After that initial diagnosis, Scott's cancer returned two other times. In 2014, Scott was honored for the way he handled his cancer battle by being given the Jimmy V ESPY Award for Perseverance. His speech at the 2014 ESPY Awards resonated with people around the world:
