Snow popped up in the forecast a few days ago and now it looks like it could turn into a winter snowstorm for portions of North Dakota.  Winter Storm Watches have been issued for a good share of North Dakota. 4 to 7 inches of new snow accumulation is possible from Williston to Minot and will continue along the Highway 2 corridor from Rugby to Devils Lake, and over to Grand Forks.  Heavier bands of snow are possible in the watch area.

The Winter Storm Watch will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, December 4th, and continue through Sunday afternoon.  Travel could become difficult in the watch area with snow and blowing snow gusting to 35 miles per hour out of the northwest.  This could lead to whiteout conditions.

This Winter Storm Watch does not include the Bismarck Mandan area.  However, snow is expected. Snow is likely mainly afternoon on Saturday and some blowing snow is possible after 4 pm.  New snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected.  Some snow will continue overnight Sunday morning and could linger until midday on Sunday.  Some freezing rain is possible Sunday morning.  Very strong northwest winds are expected to develop on Sunday afternoon.

If you have travel plans, please pack a winter survival kit in your vehicle and be aware of the possibility of rapidly changing conditions.

Much cooler weather is expected early next week with overnight lows in the single digits with high temperatures in the teens to low twenties.

There's also a chance for snow in the forecast next Monday night into Tuesday.
