North Dakota gas prices may be rising, but we are still below the national average of $3.02 per gallon.

According to KX News, the national average price jump for gas was six cents over the past two weeks. The report states that the national average is at $3.02, with the lowest average at $2.55 in Baton Rouge, LA, and the highest at $4.16 in San Fransico Bay Area, California. Get more details from KX News here.

Eastern and Western North Dakota currently have comparable gas prices.

The price of gas in North Dakota has not yet hit that three-dollar mark. I looked at gas prices throughout North Dakota, and the prices range from around $2.60 to nearly $2.80 per gallon. Prices in Williston are at $2.69, Dickinson and Minot's prices are at $2.79. Surprisingly, gas was not cheaper in Eastern North Dakota. Grand Forks and Fargo gas prices are ranging between $2.64-$2.79 per gallon.

The cheapest gas prices in North Dakota's biggest cities can be found in Bismarck.

Fargo is the city one would typically expect to have the lowest gas prices in the state. But, as far as bigger North Dakota cities go, you can find the cheapest gas right here in Bismarck! Right now, at Costco in North Bismarck and Sam's Club in South Bismarck, gas is only $2.39 per gallon! That is 16 cents cheaper than the cheapest average in Baton Rouge ($2.55). Even Sam's Grand Forks is currently at $2.64 per gallon and Sam's in Fargo is at $2.72 while Costco is at $2.69 a gallon.

As a member of Sam's Club, I have continuously filled my vehicle for between $2.20 and $2.44, the entire time prices have been in the upper $2's in Bismarck-Mandan. I am hoping we can keep these low prices through Memorial Day!

Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
