Snow, wind, and cold temperatures mean ICE FISHING.

We have all of those conditions currently in Bismarck and that's why so many people are chompin' at the bit.  Our friends from FishingBooker just come out with their updated "Best Ice Fishing Destinations" for 2021.  One North Dakota town made the list last year and it's back again this year.

Ice Fishing is big business in North Dakota.

According to the North Dakota Game and Fish, hunting and fishing contribute 2.1 BILLION dollars to the economy every year to the state.  That's a lot of minnows, ice houses, hotel stays, augers, electronics, snacks, and fishing equipment.  Oh, and I almost forgot the beer.

Getting back to the FishingBooker survey, the North Dakota destination on their list is non-other than Devils Lake.  It came in at number three in the country.  Only Lake Habeeb, in Maryland at number two and Brainard at number one, was ahead of Devils Lake.  Brainard by the way has 460 lakes within 25 miles of the city.

Devils Lake is no slouch at number three in the country.

Devils Lake is known as the "Perch Capital" of the world.  It's also a popular destination for walleye, northern pike, white bass, and crappie.

Devils Lake is the largest natural body of water in North Dakota.  The lake is usually fishable for ice fishing from mid-December through the end of March.  There are numerous access points across the lake and our maintained by plows in the winter.  See those here.

As somebody who has spent a lot of time on Devils Lake over the years, I can confirm it is 160,000 acres of outdoor water paradise.  Who's ready to drill some holes?
