The University of North Dakota men's hockey team is one step closer to another national championship, after beating the University of Michigan 5-2 to secure a spot in the 2016 Frozen Four in Tampa.

Drake Caggiula got the Fighting Hawks on the board first, putting it in the back of the net in the first period for his 21st goal of the season.

Michigan responded in the second period with a goal from JT Compher to tie it at one. Unfortunately for the Wolverines, UND's Luke Johnson scored with just 45 seconds left to play in the second period to give them a 2-1 lead.

The Wolverines' JT Compher tied it up in the third period, scoring his second goal of the game at 8:39. That tie was short-lived, though, as the Fighting Hawks' Paul LaDue scored just a few minutes later to give his team the 3-2 lead.

Coltyn Sanderson added a goal just a few moments later to put the Fighting Hawks ahead 4-2. An empty netter after Michigan pulled their goalie gave UND the 5-2 win and a trip to the Frozen Four.

UND will face the winner of Ferris State and Denver in the Frozen Four semifinal on April 7th in Tampa.

The Fighting Hawks are looking to win their eighth national championship.
