Queen said it best: "We are the champions, my friends And we'll keep on fighting till the end - We are the champions - We are the champions - No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the ACHA Div. II"

How about a hand for Bismarck's very own University of Mary Marauders men’s hockey team - last night they blanked Iowa State 2-0 to pick up their first D-II title in the program’s history. The past three years have been quite a story. According to KFYRTV in their first year of competition, they won 39 games, BUT for some ACHA rule, UMary being a rookie team was not allowed in the tournament (The dumbest thing I've ever heard) - Last year they repeated another 39 win season only to see it end abruptly because of the pandemic.

Nothing stood in the Marauders way this year, finishing their season at 38-4-1-6, and a championship! This team had quite a few players that played their high school hockey right here in town - Bismarck High Alums Quinn Ackerman, Drew Lenertz, Marcus Kopp, Drew Huber - Century High Alum Connor Hanson - Mandan High Alum Alexander Horner.

Pretty cool to have a National Championship team right here in Bismarck - even more impressive of the way they never gave up the past three years - UMary goaltender Kyle Hayden said it best "It’s special. As you saw there are some guys on the ice who were here the last two years and they were robbed of the chance to compete for one of these so we didn’t just win it for us we won it for those guys who played the past couple of years as well,”

I'm going to be humming "We are the champions" all afternoon! Congratulations University of Mary Marauders men’s hockey team.
