It's no secret that I'm a horror movie geek. What you may not know, though, is that my love of horror actually came from my mother. In honor of her and Mother's Day, here's my top 5 moms in horror.

    Mrs. Loomis - 'Scream 2'

The Scream franchise made it's name on concealing who the killer was until the very end. While the reveal of the killers in the original film was pretty surprising, I'd actually argue that the reveal in Scream 2 is actually an even bigger surprise.

Much like another mom on our list, Mrs. Loomis is just avenging the death of her son. A mother's love knows no bounds.

    Dorothy Yates - 'Frightmare'

Though not as well known as the others, Dorothy Yates in Frightmare is just as terrifying, if not more, than the other horror moms on the list.

Why, you ask? Because, she's a cannibal.

    Joan Crawford - 'Mommie Dearest'

Is there a mom in horror that made you afraid of an inanimate object more than Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest?

No, there isn't. I don't own any wire hangers because of this film.

    Norma Bates - 'Psycho'

Technically, it isn't Norma that's terrifying. It's actually her son, Norman, and his split personality. It's Norman, dressed as Norma, that kills Marion Crane in the shower.

To this day, Norman is still one of the absolute creepiest characters in horror and it's all because he just REALLY loved his mom.

Pamela Voorhies - 'Friday the 13th'

When people think of the Friday the 13th franchise, the first thing they think of is Jason. True fans know, though, that the original killer was actually...***SPOILER ALERT***...Jason's mother, Pamela.

It was Jason's death, due to accidental drowning, that led Mrs. Voorhies on her murderous rampage. And, to think, if those camp counselors would have just been paying attention, none of this would have ever happened.
