Today is Thursday, October 29th. Why is this day so important? I mean to me, it started out like any other morning, my younger cat waking me up right around the same time, 5:46 am - That's when I usually hear a light but firm "meow" signifying that I should immediately get up out of a warm bed and feed her within 20 seconds. Of course, my older cat picks up on the "FEED US NOW" CATerwauling. I completely forgot that today is National Cat Day - but when you think about it, isn't every day National Cat Day? I know that's how THEY feel about it.

I am a single man, living in a two-bedroom apartment - one cat box in each room. Are women attracted to a guy like me? I'm going to go ahead and take a wild guess and say no. I will say what genuinely makes me happy though, is that my two four-legged roommates are rescue cats. The older one I picked up in Fargo, about 5 years ago, her previous owner robbed a bank and was sent to prison - the cat was going to be taken to the pound until I found out about it, and adopted her. I chose Fe-lon as her name ( get it? FELON - Fe-lon). To this very day, I expect some ex-con to knock on my day looking for his cat. My other cat was found in a dangerous situation, 2 years ago. A Facebook friend was driving near Max, late at night, and he thought he saw something in the middle of the road, he did the right thing and drove back to the very spot - there was a tiny kitten almost frozen to the highway, her right eye severely damaged. He scooped her up, put her in his truck, and raced to the Souris Valley Animal Shelter. They saved her life. I found out about it on Thanksgiving day. I put my name on a list, and about 3 weeks later got the call to pick her up. Her name is Bromita ( yes quite vain )  - my little one-eyed cat pirate.

I am forever grateful for my friend Kyle, who found her, I am also blown away by places like Souris Valley Animal Shelter, Central Dakota Humane Society, Kitty City, Furry Friends Rockin Rescue, Bismarck Pound who show such amazing compassion and provide a place for animals to heal, and eventually find a loving home. Thank you to each and every one of you who put your heart and soul into your work. The absolute best thing you can do for yourself and your family - is to give the gift of love to an animal that will return the favor...and then some. Especially at 5:46 am :)

I'M SO BISMARCK ,THAT I...
