As we celebrate Mother's Day today, people all over the world are telling stories about how amazing their mom's are. Don't get me wrong...my mom is great...but instead of recognizing just her, I thought I'd recognize my favorite film mom: Mrs. Bates from 'Psycho'.

Now, I know what you're thinking..."But, Matt, doesn't Norman Bates portray his mother in the movie?" Yes, he does, but that doesn't make her any less important. Norman's "mother" is at the center of the most important scene in the movie: the shower scene. It's Mrs. Bates who kills Marion Crane, not Norman. (Yes, I know it actually WAS Norman, dressed up as his mom.)

Mrs. Bates just doesn't get the credit she deserves. Sure, she raised a psychopathic murderer, who kept her skeleton in the house years after she had passed. And, sure, her son dressed up in her clothes and spoke like her when he got into Mrs. Bates-mode...but can you really blame her for that?

Norman just loved his mother...A LOT. He even says it in one of the film's classic lines: "A boy's best friend is his mother."

Here's to you, Mrs. Bates. Happy Mother's Day!
