Survey Shows UND Students Want ‘North Dakota’ Added to Nickname Vote

A recent survey administered to University of North Dakota students showed that more than half would like 'North Dakota' added to the list of possible nicknames headed for a public vote.

According to InForum, 68% of the over 3,000 students surveyed want 'UND/North Dakota' added to the possible nickname list, which also includes Fighting Hawks, NoDaks, Sundogs, North Stars, and Roughriders.

Since the Fighting Sioux nickname was retired in 2012, the University of North Dakota has used 'UND' as their logo and it seems that the majority of students would like to see it stay that way.

Once school resumes in the fall, a public vote is expected to determine which nickname the school will move forward with.
