Stop With The Hate – Support Those That Really Care.

I think it's pretty safe to say we all got blindsided by the coronavirus. I mean 2020 started out fairly innocent enough, then all hell broke out. The obvious struggles have been apparent, from loss of lives to economic disaster. What gets me are those that feel compelled to hurt others. An example recently has come out about Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health Director Renae Moch - she has been a target of personal attacks just because of her work. The Bismarck Tribune reports that because of Moch's job responding to the COVID-19 pandemic - she has received verbal abuse - "I've been called names. I've been called a tyrant. I've been called a Nazi," Moch told the Bismarck City Commission Tuesday. "I am doing my job as the public health director for Bismarck and Burleigh County. I am doing the best that I can through a pandemic, and I am so dang proud of our staff that have been at this since March." 

Some local residents at the meeting voiced their concern that Moch "Is not an elected official" - which is true - Renae sits on the Burleigh-Morton COVID-19 Task Force steering committee -  she is a huge part of the group, she helps coordinate meetings. She is there to lend a hand and be a part of the solution rather than be like so many others who choose to withdraw from others and stew in negativity. Moch said it best "The hearts in the windows and the love and the 'we're all in this together' that was in March has faded away to vulgarity and rude untruths that is just beyond my comprehension." 

I'm no expert, but I believe in our community and doing what is right. I hope for respect to be once again restored with Moch and those that have treated her poorly. For more on this story click here.
