The St. Mary's Saints capped off a phenomenal season with a 24-22 win over Wahpeton and a Class AA State Championship.

Jacob Heinert started the scoring for St. Mary's with a short TD run in the first quarter. That was followed up by a 34-yard TD pass from Smrekar to Obritsch, to put the Saints up 14-0 in the first quarter.

Smrekar and Obritsch connected again in the 2nd quarter to put the Saints up 21-8. They tacked on a record 43-yard field goal before the end of the half to go up 24-8 at halftime.

The scoring dried up in the second half for the Saints, however. Wahperton managed to put another 14 points on the board in the fourth quarter, to pull within two points, but couldn't punch in the two-point conversion and St. Mary's secured the victory.

Congratulations to the 2013 St. Mary's Saints, your Class AA State Champions! This is their first state title in nearly 20 years!
