Should Cellphones Be Illegal For Anyone Under 21?

My very first cellphone was one where I could change the colored face-plate and play games like Tetris. It was cool back then. However, the phone was only to be used for playing those black-gray-screen games or to call my parents. Also, it was a phone I was forced to share with my little brother. Traumatizing for a pre-teen, I know.

Now, it's 2020, and I don't think I know a child who doesn't have a cellphone. And cellphones are insanely different from the early 2000's. I mean, our phones are really just an extension of us as humans at this point. Cellphones are truly incredible devices, but are they too dangerous for teenagers and younger?

Imagine it being an crime to have a cellphone as a teenager. 

Vermont Senator John Rogers wants to ban people under 21 from possessing a cellphone. The proposed bill would make it a misdemeanor to be under 21 and in possession of a cellphone. This would be punishable by a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The bill has been proposed because the Senator wants to cut down on accidents and deaths as a result of cell phone usage while driving, among other reasons.

I don't know about you, but I find it disturbing that someone would try to go as far as making it illegal to possess a cellphone if under the age of 21. At this point in history, cellphones are fairly essential to function. Even for younger people. Seriously, it is unrealistic to attempt to ban cellphone usage to an entire population under a certain age.
