Lawman shot and killed a suspect in Stutsman County Wednesday morning after a pursuit, according to Inforum. (Feb 21)

The chase started north of Jamestown when the suspect was noticed driving under suspension. The pursuit was called off by the Jamestown Police Department and the sheriff's office picked up the chase at that point.

The dead mans car got stuck and tried to escape of foot in the Medina area. During the pursuit according to police reports, the man fired a gun at police during the chase. When the suspect got out of the car, police fired on him striking him.

According to Inforum, there is no word on the number of police involved in the chase or the shooting. Police on the scene included the Jamestown Police Department and the sheriff's department. The sheriff's department said the dead man is believed to be 27-years old and  authorities did not know his hometown.

Medina Public Schools was on locked down for about 15 minutes before the all clear was sounded and the threat was over.

An internal and external investigating will take place.
