Big changes coming to Memorial Highway

Otherwise affectionally known as "the Strip" in Mandan over the course of the next year.  If you've ever tried to take a left on Memorial Highway on to 3rd street southeast, you know how challenging that can be.  Considered to be one of the most dangerous intersections in all of Bismarck Mandan.  Click HERE for those.

This four way traffic signal will be installed in the fall of 2021

according to an email obtained from the city of Mandan.

Other changes coming to the strip in Mandan include:

Storm sewers installation, and the city plans to relocate the 3rd street southeast and Memorial Highway lift station across the street to the west side of 3rd street.  This will happen in 2022 and traffic disruption is expected to be minimal.

Townsquare Media is located on Memorial Highway in Mandan, and although it hasn't been a problem of late due to the drought, ponding of water in the ditch on the strip can be a problem.  Especially after heavy rains or during significant snow melt, water can back up into the businesses parking lots or even into buildings.  Ditches currently run on either side of Memorial Highway.

The city of Mandan plans to fix this with new construction that will design curb inlets on both sides of the road, that will collect water and move it below the road to the Heart River or the Missouri River from Lakewood Bay. Survey crews will be out on Memorial Highway this Summer and Fall, and construction is tentatively planned for 2022.

LOOK: Here are the best lake towns to live in

Many of the included towns jump out at the casual observer as popular summer-rental spots--the Ozarks' Branson, Missouri, or Arizona's Lake Havasu--it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely pick up some knowledge from a wide range of Americana: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that started as a Civil War veteran retirement area; an island boasting some of the country's top public schools and wealth-earners right in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing much more than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
