The NBA's Memphis Grizzlies recently promoted assistant coach Dave Joerger to their head coaching position. If that name sounds familiar, there's good reason for it.

Joerger is considered one of the most successful coaches in minor league basketball, after leading the Dakota Wizards to the 2007 D-League Championship. According to CBSSports.com, it was Joerger's fifth championship as a coach.

Joerger also spent time in the college ranks at Moorhead State.

Joerger replaces Lionel Hollins and takes over a Grizzlies team that made it to the NBA's Western Conference Finals this past season. They were swept by the eventual Western Conference Champion San Antonio Spurs.
