The Bison had a strong showing in the first game of their 2014 campaign against Iowa State, but the bigger story is how one particular reporter out of Iowa is choking on his words, making the victory just that much sweeter.

NDSU defeated Iowa State 34-14 on Saturday afternoon, racking up over 400 total yards on offense (204 passing, 299 rushing). Starting QB Carson Wentz was 18/28 for 204 yards and no touchdowns, while running back John Crockett carried the ball for 18 times for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns. Chase Morlock added another 81 rushing yards on 6 attempts and was able to punch the ball into the endzone for an additional score.

Iowa State, on the other hand, was held to only 253 total yards on offense. QB Sam B. Richardson was 20/31 for 151 yards, but was picked off twice by the Bison defense. Running back Aaron Wimbley provided the Cyclones only scores of the day, rushing 9 times for 38 yards and finding the endzone twice.

There was plenty of buildup leading to the game, most notably at the hands of sports reporter Andy Fales out of Des Moines, Iowa, who (albeit sarcastically) predicted NDSU's total destruction at the hands of Iowa State, slinging some mud at the state of North Dakota along the way.

NDSU fans took to social media on Saturday afternoon to let Fales know just how they felt, and they certainly didn't hold back. Check out some of our favorites:

As was the case last year (we're talking to you, K-State MASK), the Bison have once again proven it's never a good idea to provide NDSU with any extra motivation, joking or not.

Only one thing left to say to Mr. Fales - SCOREBOARD.
