Since I've moved to North Dakota, it's been pretty easy to pull off surprise appearances because no one expects me to travel thousands of miles without telling anyone. Well, I did it once again this past weekend and surprised my friends in Ohio.

My buddy, Dustin, and his fiance, Megan, threw a housewarming party over the weekend to celebrate their new home in Delaware, Ohio. Knowing that a few of my buddies would be making the drive down from Michigan, I decided to make the drive, too.

I left Bismarck around 5am Thursday morning and drove 13 hours to Peoria, Illinois, to crash at my former co-host Dave's house. Dave and I worked together in Missouri and, though we only spent seven months working together, we've built a pretty strong friendship, so I was excited to have a few beers with him and discuss his new job.

After an evening of beers and shots in downtown Peoria, I was up at 4am Friday morning and back on the road to drive to downtown Columbus to meet a couple of friends, who just so happened to be in town for Rock on the Range. After lunch, I was en route to Delaware to pull off the big surprise.

Truthfully, of the four people at the house when I arrived for the surprise, three of them knew I was coming. The fourth, Dustin, did not, and was basically the mark for this elaborate plan.

As you can see from the above video, I placed the Smirnoff Ice on his porch and pounded on the door. He walked out onto the porch and continued into the driveway to find out who had left this sweetly disgusting drink for him. I popped out from between the cars to the following response:

...What are you doing here?

Thanks, Dustin. Really appreciate your excitement at my over 1,000 mile drive.

Either way, it was a great weekend to recharge the batteries and spend some time with the people that I've become closest with. The next time I see all of these people, I'll be the best man at Dustin and Megan's wedding in Las Vegas.

If this past weekend is any indication of what to expect on that trip, I better start preparing my body now.
