Motley Crue’s ‘The Dirt’ Movie May Arrive in 2016

After wending its way through development for several years, the film adaptation of Mötley Crüe's The Dirt memoir may reach theaters in 2016.

That's what it looks like, anyway, to singer Vince Neil, who told Las Vegas Magazine that some of the recent behind-the-scenes changes on the movie include a new script — which he deemed a vast improvement over the previous draft — and a potential release date.

"Making music and making movies is two different things. We're involved in it, but ... we just got a new script about three or four months ago, the rewrite of the old script, and it's way, way better. It's such a great script," said Neil. "This movie should be out in the summer of 2016. It does stay pretty close to The Dirt, so if you've read The Dirt, it's really something to look forward to."

Neil added that the band's involvement includes being present at table reads for the script, which he admitted was something of a surreal experience. Saying it's "gonna be strange" to watch an actor living out his life onscreen, he laughed, "It's funny, I saw the table read of the last script. They have these different actors playing each person, and even just the table read of the script was weird when the Vince guy was talking. It wasn't the guy that's gonna play me, but it was just kind of weird hearing somebody say your words. It's a bit of a trip."

The Dirt has taken its time coming together, although director Jeff Tremaine has promised it'll be worth the wait, predicting that "ultimately, it’s going to be a great movie." The project has been on a faster track since acquiring studio involvement from Focus Features earlier this year.
