Men's hockey coach Dave Hakstol is getting his shot in the big leagues, after it was announced that he would leave the University of North Dakota to become the new head coach of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers.

Hakstol becomes the 19th head coach in Flyers history, according to ESPN.com.

Hakstol spent eleven seasons at UND, leading the team to a record of 289-143-43, with seven appearances in the Frozen Four. The team made the NCAA tournament in each of Hakstol's eleven seasons.

In a statement published by ESPN, Hakstol said the following about joining the Flyers organization:

I am extremely excited to be named the Philadelphia Flyers new head coach. Through the process here with Ron [Hextall] and everybody in the Flyers organization I have gained even more of an understanding of the history and tradition of this organization and I'm very proud to become part of the Philadelphia Flyers today.

Hakstol replaces Craig Berube, who lasted only two seasons in Philadelphia.

Brad Berry, longtime UND assistant, has been named Hakstol's replacement.
