Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have been chosen to perform on the float representing the state of South Dakota at this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and that has some South Dakota ranchers upset.

According to CBSNews.com, the South Dakota ranchers are upset because Jett is a vegan and a supporter of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The cattle industry is huge in South Dakota and some residents believe that her views don't mesh well with the state's.

South Dakota Tourism Secretary Jim Hagen says that, contrary to popular belief, they had no say in who would perform on the float:

It's not because of any ill will Macy's is trying to create or anything. They were just trying to do what they thought would be a great artist for us.
