Is It A Good Idea For ND To Open The Pools?
I love to go to the pool, lake, ocean, any body of water, really. I just love to spend my summertime all laid-back and beachy. I actually kind of figured that the pandemic would wipe out all 2020 summer fun activities, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is fine with us using public pools. Of course, we have to follow the safety precautions.
The CDC has come out with a list of considerations for opening public pools, saunas, etc. According to their website, the CDC is encouraging things such as frequent hand washing, disinfecting of hand rails and slides, and wearing face masks when possible. Get all the considerations here.
According to KFYR-TV, the public pools in Bismarck are set to open on June first. The post says that Bismarck Parks and Recreation is doing everything to follow the CDC's guidelines before opening. Read the whole story here.
Believe me, I understand the desire to protect ourselves and others from the virus and other germs. But how can we control the spread at a pool? You can't effectively wear a cloth mask in the water. You can't trust that there won't be at least one person peeing, coughing, sneezing, or doing other gross things. Yes, chlorine kills, but we can't be too cautious these days.
What do you think about public pools being open and operating this summer?
