With how much money people spend on Christmas lights every year, it should come as no surprise that you can actually see some of them from space!

NASA recently released the video above, which features images taken using the VIIRS instrument on the Suomi NPP satellite. With this instrument, scientists can study data and illustrate patterns in holiday lights, according to the video description.

The data suggests that nighttime lights in the United States shine between 20 and 50 percent brighter during the holidays. During Ramadan, lights in the Middle East also shine 50 percent brighter, according to VICE News.

After watching the video, it seems like North Dakotans need to step their Christmas light game up!
