Today is a day that, as far as I'm concerned, should be a national holiday. There's no reason why we should have to work on Opening Day of baseball season! Even the opening of the NFL season doesn't compare to Opening Day in Major League Baseball. Here are a few of the games worth checking out today.

Detroit Tigers @ Minnesota Twins: OK, this is a completely selfish pick because I'm a huge Detroit Tigers fan but that doesn't mean that the game isn't worth watching. The Tigers are the defending American League Champions, while the Twins are looking to bounce back from a down season. Detroit is counting on another big seasons from perennial Cy Young candidate Justin Verlander and last year's Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera. The Twins are hoping that Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau can just stay healthy the entire season.

Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees: Beginning the baseball season with a series between the MLB's two biggest rivals is a great idea. The Yankees are banged up, that's for sure. They'll start the season with Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mark Texeira, and Curtis Granderson on the DL. The Red Sox have a new manager, after last year's Bobby Valentine debacle, and a few new faces, including Mike Napoli. The Red Sox look to turn their club around, while the Yankees just hope to hang in a loaded division.

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Dodgers: The Giants are the defending World Series Champions, so they're looking to get back to the postseason. The Dodgers spent a lot of money this offseason, bringing in Zack Greinke to help a starting rotation anchored by Clayton Kershaw. If the Dodgers can stay healthy, the Giants may not even win their division, let alone this years World Series.
