Duff McKagan will release a three-song EP on the same day he publishes his new book, How to Be a Man. Both will be available on May 12.

The EP features collaborations with his former Guns N' Roses bandmate Izzy Stradlin, Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell and Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga. No word on whether the Stradlin song is the same one the pair worked on together last month, a track that McKagan referred to as "super kick-ass."

McKagan's second book follows It's So Easy (And Other Lies), which became a bestseller upon its release in 2012. How to Be a Man (And Other Illusions) was inspired by the bassist's column for Seattle Weekly. “It’s a how-to guide of things I’ve learned about life — being a dad, being a husband and being in a rock band," he said earlier this year. "And it’s, like, a city guide in it, but a very tongue-in-cheek city guide. Like, how I see cities. It’s got all kinds of stuff. And other stories."

The EP marks McKagan's first recorded work since 2013's Walking Papers collaboration with Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready. He's also made records with his band Loaded and Velvet Revolver over the past decade, but he hasn't released a work under his own name since 1999, when he put out his second solo album, Beautiful Disease.

That doesn't mean McKagan hasn't been busy on the musical front lately. Just last week he joined Faith No More onstage dressed in a leather-studded outfit as the band's Gimp mascot. Or at least he and the group say it was him. Kinda hard to tell in that get-up.
