I find myself exposed as a denier of Cornhole's emergence as a competitive sport.

I always relegated bean bags to the days of lawn darts. Not the wussy lawn darts with the round ends, but the super-pokey lawn darts of the past. When I was seven me and a buddy would throw them straight up as high as we could and then "expertly" dodge them as they came down sinking four inches in the turf. Genius. Keith, I'm probably talking about you again.

In my neck of the woods, we played lawn darts and croquet. "Shoot your ball down the street" kind of croquet. Later in life, I discovered Bocce Ball. So, I've only run across Cornhole a few times in my yard-game experiences. Plus it has a silly name- Corn hole. It's like when you call a cash register a P-O-S...a "point of sale". Makes me laugh.

Go figure though, COVID comes along and crashes the party of every sports league, and ESPN is left talking about a Michael Jordan biography for a MONTH! Then ESPN comes to it's wits and airs the CORNHOLE CHAMPIONSHIP!

The American Cornhole League’s “Cornhole Mania 2020” aired on ESPN and ESPN2 Saturday, bringing four hours of live sports to a public and a network starved for them.

That was back in May, and NOW, THIS WEEKEND there is a Cornhole Tournament of such epic proportions- I can only put up the poster from their Facebook page to explain JUST how many teams are competing!

Plus, they threaten the hotel staff!   So, Cornhole...I apologize. May your holes be larger than life, and your bags be extra squishy.  Thanks for guiding us through uncertain times.  (SPOILER ALERT! NOT THEIR REAL BUTTS!)

I did want to add that NOBODY parties harder for two days than Broom Ballers! Now those folks are off the hook. Probably hungover You Tube video here
