This was a close one, that's for sure. The fight for North Dakotans to have the freedom to go into an Indoor lounge, kick back, light up a cigar, and relax has come to an end. I wrote about this last Friday, just curious how people here in town would respond. I would guess about 80% were in favor of the bill passing - many arguments against stated their opinions - defending their rights for clean air.

"If you build it, they will come" was the idea that Minot, Republican Rep. Dan Ruby had. His dream was to have a place for stogie fans - their own place of billowy bliss. House Bill 1152 - which would allow cigar smoking in certified bars or cigar lounges - passed in the House by three votes and on it went to the Senate floor. North Dakota's smoke-free law -  smoking is prohibited in places of employment and public spaces -  stood in its path. The battle began, the final vote count was a HUGE victory for......

According to fightcancer  “Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death and disability in the U.S. Additionally, smoking increases a person’s risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Amid this pandemic, when standing up for public health is of the utmost priority, particularly respiratory health, we thank our senators for having stopped efforts to infringe upon North Dakotans’ right to breathe clean, smoke-free air. 

How close was this Bill to passing? The North Dakota Senate voted 23 to 24 in opposition - a narrow margin indeed (More narrow than a Swisher Sweet)
