A routine traffic stop Monday night, December 29th, in Bismarck led to the North Dakota Highway Patrol's largest heroin seizure ever.

According to The Grand Forks Herald, two Arizona men were pulled over and subsequently arrested after a search of their vehicle yielded 4.5 pounds of heroin, which carries a street value of $2.5 million.

The two men, Frank Villa and Charles Ahumada, were charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver, which is a Class AA felony. The maximum penalty for this charge is life in prison.

The two men were driving a Chevy Malibu, rented by Ahumada. They were initially pulled over for going 64 mph in a 60-mph zone on I-94, in Bismarck. The trooper that pulled the vehicle over became suspicious while talking to Villa, which led to the search of the vehicle.

The two men are currently being held on bond.
