Bismarck Daughter’s “Gift Of Life” To Her Father.

Our mothers and fathers help shape who we are. I'm not talking about who you resemble most - sure some may say you take after your dad "You look just like your father when he was your age". We are molded from the way we were brought up. My parents divorced when I was twelve, I separated myself to live with my dad about a year or two later. I'm sure I picked up a lot of my dad's bad habits. When we are young we look up to someone to emulate, it's just a part of life. Parents work hard to lead by example, and they sacrifice so much for their children.

Here in Bismarck, a daughter has returned the favor and has saved her father's life. Becky Batiz is definitely a role model for April, which is "Donate Life" month. According to KFYRTV, more than 100,000 people in the United States are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Bill Townsend was an average person in need of a transplant, and the normal wait is about five years - to find a kidney donor match. Back in November of 2019, he qualified for a transplant. The wait was on.

When Beck found out she was a perfect match - to give back to her father - her decision was ..."It was a no-brainer for me. He’s done everything for us all along. So, I knew just watching him go downhill that I was his chance to recover and have his life back,”  Everything was all set to go until a glitch put a halt to the operation, which was scheduled for early 2020 - all elective surgeries were put on hold due to the pandemic. The miracle of life finally happened in June, as both father and daughter had surgery on the same day.

Today Bill is healthy and plans to spend more time with his kids and grandkids - he knows wherever he may be, a major part of his daughter will ALWAYS be with him!
