The Bismarck Bobcats opened up the playoffs with a bang Friday night (4/15), defeating the Brookings Blizzard 5-2 to take a 1-0 series lead.

Alex Strand got the Bobcats on the board first, finding the back of the net 5:39 into the first period to give his team a 1-0 lead, according to BismarckBobcats.com. Just a few minutes later, though, Brookings was able to tie it up at 1-1 on a Martan Yelle goal.

That wouldn't be the end of the scoring in the first period, though, as the Bobcats scored two more goals, courtesy of Aaron Herdt and Patrik Demel, to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

Just over one minute into the second period, the Blizzard were able to cut the lead to one, 3-2, thanks to a power play goal from Mikael Hakkarainen. Unfortunately for the Blizzard, though, that would be the last time they'd see the score change in their favor.

The Bobcats added two goals in the third period, including an empty netter, to take game one of the series 5-2.

Game two in the best-of-five series between the Bobcats and Blizzard is scheduled for Saturday night, April 16th, at the VFW Sports Center in Bismarck. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. You can buy and print your tickets at BismarckBobcats.com.
