Bismarck Bobcat and Century Product Irey Commits to Bemidji State
The Bismarck Bobcats have announced that Bismarck native Kirklan Irey has committed to play for the Bemidji State Beavers.
Irey, a forward for the Bobcats and product of Century High School, will be playing Division I hockey in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). He finished with 34 goals and 46 assists as a junior at CHS in 2017-18 while leading the Patriots to their first appearance in the state finals. Irey's first season as a Bobcat begins today at the 2018 NAHL Showcase.
On committing to Bemidji State, Irey stated:
It’s an honor to say that I’m committed to be a Beaver and it’s a great feeling to know that my next step after juniors is set...It lets me focus on playing hockey this year to the best of my abilities and help our team back to the playoffs and the Robertson Cup.
Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie said the Bobcats and the NAHL is all about helping players advance to the next level and it's even more special that a local talent such as Kirk is the one taking his play to the next level. Sedevie said of Kirk's abilities:
Kirklan’s hockey IQ and his ability to make plays are off the charts and when you combine that with his work ethic, that’s going to make him a big-time college hockey player.
The Bobcats now have four players that are committed to Division I hockey programs. Irey joins Jacob Marti and Mitch Walinski (both committed to Air Force), as well as Adam Stacho (American International).
