This is a question that's been on my mind for awhile.  Just how long will the COVID-19 vaccine last?  According to an article in the Grand Forks Herald, the general public over the age of 16 years will be eligible to get one of the vaccines in the state starting March 29th.  This comes from the North Dakota Department of Health.  So, it's time to start planning if you intend to roll up your sleeves and get your shots.  In fact, some providers in Burleigh and Morton counties have already opened up the vaccine to the general public.

It's pretty unbelievable if you think about it?  That we could have a vaccine available in just under a year from when this whole mess started.  It still begs the question, "how long does the vaccine last?"  I've asked this questions to several of my friends?  A couple of them in the medical field.  Nobody seems to have the answer.  So, I decided to pick up the phone and call my clinic.  They had no idea?  I called another clinic in town, no clue.  Same with the third place I called?

Time to go to the internet and do some digging.

The official word from the Centers for Disease Control:

"We don't know how long protection lasts for those who are vaccinated.  What we do know is that COVID-19 has caused very serious illness and death for a lot of people.  If you get COVID-19, you also risk giving it to loved ones who may get very sick.  Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is a safer choice.  Experts are working to learn more about both natural immunity and vaccine-induced immunity.  CDC will keep the public informed as new evidence becomes available."

Not a lot of help there.  At least now I know, that we really don't know.  I hope it's for at least a year.  I guess time will tell soon.
