Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love Salem Sue. It is without a doubt my favorite spot in the Bismarck-Mandan vicinity.

I don't know what it is about that cow but I'm obsessed. I am from the New York City area originally so an area like Salem Sue is usually not appealing to 'my kind of people.'

In fact, when my parents came to visit me last summer, on our way out to Medora, I made sure to make a pit stop at Salem Sue. My parents weren't so impressed. But what do they know?

Sunset at Salem Sue is really the best part of the whole thing. I posted some pictures for your pleasure last July. I have many more than that though because I was at Salem Sue at least once a week during the summer. I will be making plenty of return trips this summer.

There's just one thing Salem Sue is missing. It needs a gift shop. I want a tiny Salem Sue figurine. I want a Salem Sue snow globe. I want a Salem Sue t-shirt. I want a children's book telling me about the adventures of Salem Sue. There should be Salem Sue coloring books and mugs. I want to sleep on Salem Sue sheets.

On your way to Salem Sue, there's a sign that says, "You'll love the view from Salem Sue." It only makes sense to sell t-shirts that say, "I loved the view from Salem Sue."

For those who don't know, Salem Sue was built in 1974 in honor of the dairy industry. And now more than ever, the dairy farmers in our area need help. In 2002, North Dakota had 350 dairy farms. Currently, there are only 86.

Part of the funds from the Salem Sue gift shop can be given to dairy farmers and put back into the declining dairy industry.

And I already have the perfect name for the Salem Sue gift shop: Salem SUEvenirs.

P.S. -- To all the people out there who deface Salem Sue and put graffiti on her... I hope you step on a lego.
