Anyone living around here knows the United Tribes International Powwow is a big deal. The powwow is held annually in the Lone Star Arena at the United Tribes Technical College here in Bismarck and is widely considered to be one of the premier cultural events in the state!

There's even bigger news this year ... if you can't make it to the powwow, the powwow will be brought to you! On Saturday, September 7th, from 7-11pm (Central Time), the evening's events will be carried live online and on Dakota Media Access, Bismarck-Mandan's cable TV Channel 12. The telecast will be produced by students of UTTC's Art/Art Marketing Program, while the webcast will be supported by personnel from the college’s Information Technology Department, Office of Public Information, and powwow sound contractor REZ JAM Productions.

United Tribes International Powwow Committee Chairperson Julie M. Cain explains the decision to offer the event through various mediums this year:

This is part of our outreach to those unable to make it to campus, it’s our biggest event of the year. It celebrates our culture and kicks-off our school year. We want people everywhere to enjoy it.

The powwow kicked off today (Thursday) and will run through Sunday. You can find a complete schedule of events here.
