University of North Dakota President Mark Kennedy says school may again need to look at cutting sports programs.

In a statement released by Kennedy, he says the school will "regrettably" consider dropping sports programs. The reason is to ensure that other teams can continue to be competitive.

The school is looking to come up with a target budget by February 10 and are being asked to submit their budget plan by March 15. This, in hopes of meeting a proposal by Governor Doug Burgum that cuts the university's state funding by 20 percent.

Last year, both baseball and golf were cut before the golf team was reinstated, thanks to fundraising efforts.
