The last time many of us saw Drake Caggiula and Nick Schmaltz on the ice, they were helping the University of North Dakota win their eighth national championship. Wednesday night, they'll both be suiting up in the NHL.

Caggiula, who went undrafted following his senior season, will take the ice for the Edmonton Oilers when they face the Calgary Flames at 9 p.m.

Schmaltz, meanwhile, joins another former UND standout, Jonathan Toews, on the Chicago Blackhawks roster. The Blackhawks begin their season against the St. Louis Blues at 7 p.m. You can watch the game on NBCSN.

Caggiula and Schmaltz are just two of the thirteen former University of North Dakota players on NHL rosters this season, according to the Grand Forks Herald.

Former UND head coach Dave Hakstol is also in the NHL. He hopes to build on a successful first season with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he led them to the playoffs.
