In case you haven't heard, Ringling Bros Circus recently announced that they are closing down shop for good.

Many reasons have led to the decision including criticism of their treatment of animals in recent years and declining attendance.

The Ringling Bros Circus has not visited North Dakota in quite some time but 2017 marks the 120 year anniversary of a freak accident that occurred involving two Ringling Bros workers.

In 1897, Charles Smith and Charles Walters were setting up a tent for the show in Wahpeton when they were struck by lightning.

A monument for the two workers exists on 2nd Street in Wahpeton.
