After reading about it and hearing a few of the tracks on "Sound City: Real to Reel", I couldn't wait any longer to watch the documentary 'Sound City'. Thankfully, the film lived up to the hype.

For those of you that are just hearing about Sound City for the first time, it was a recording studio in Los Angeles where some of the absolute greatest records ever were recorded. Albums like Fleetwood Mac's "Fleetwood Mac", Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Damn the Torpedos", and Nirvana's "Nevermind". In May of 2011, Sound City closed it doors and sold Dave Grohl of Nirvana it's prized Neve 8028 console. It was this purchase that led Grohl to decide to make a documentary about the famed Sound City.

If you're a fan of rock music, this film is definitely a must-see. You truly see what exactly Sound City was and why it wasn't just a recording studio. The vibe that that place had...the albums that were recorded there...the people that set foot in the building...It makes for a great story. Plus, a who's who of rock legends make appearances in the film and talk about their experiences with Sound City: Lindsay Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Frank Black of The Pixies, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Brad and Tim of Rage Against the Machine, and, of course, Dave Grohl.

Even though I know absolutely nothing about recording music, I found myself enthralled by this film. Dave Grohl did a fantastic job capturing the essence of Sound City and getting the right people to tell its story. If you're a fan of any type of music, I implore you to watch 'Sound City'. It is truly an amazing documentary and a great watch.
