A bill proposed in the North Dakota senate would require legislators to complete at least four hours of 'cultural competency training.'

The idea behind the bill is for legislators to better be able to connect with minorities in the state including that of Native Americans.

Dakota Access Pipeline protests helped spark the idea behind the bill in an effort to have legislators better understand those who are speaking out against the project.

Other bills have been proposed that would impose stricter penalties for unlawful protests, making it illegal to wear a mask, among other bills.

The cultural competency training bill is unlikely to pass.
