New head coach Bubba Schweigert isn't the only University of North Dakota staff member with ties to our great state.

Mandan native and former UND linebacker Eric Schmidt was named the team's new defensive coordinator late last week. He joins Schweigert's staff from Southern Illinois, where he was a member of the defensive staff. Schmidt will be the team's third defensive coordinator in three years.

Schmidt was a member of the UND football team from 1998-2001. He was named an all-North Central Conference pick twice during his playing days.

Paul Rudolph, the team's offensive coordinator is also from North Dakota. He hails from Stanley.
