September 25th is celebrated every year as One-Hit Wonder Day, paying tribute to those musical artists who had one hit before bowing out of the spotlight.

The day was actually established back in 1990 by music journalist Steve Rosen, as a way to pay tribute to those acts that enjoyed something some of us may never experience: Their five minutes of fame.

So, in honor of One-Hit Wonder Day, here are my top five classic rock one-hit wonders.

Warren Zevon - 'Werewolves of London'

The late Warren Zevon was well respected among his fellow musicians, but only managed to score one Billboard Top 40 hit. 'Werewolves of London' climbed to #21 in May of 1978.

Georgia Satellites - 'Keep Your Hands to Yourself'

I don't know what it is about this song, but I'm always excited to hear it. It's also the highest charting song on my list, as it reached #2 on the Billboard Top 40 chart back in 1987. It was also recently used in a commercial for the Buick LaCrosse.

Twisted Sister - 'We're Not Gonna Take It'

Though they've managed to stay in the public eye since their debut in the 80's, Twisted Sister is technically a one-hit wonder. 'We're Not Gonna Take It' rose to #21 on the Billboard Top 40 charts in September of 1984.

Ted Nugent - 'Cat Scratch Fever'

As a guy that was born and raised in Michigan, it's very difficult for me to list Ted Nugent as a one-hit wonder, but he is. 'Cat Scratch Fever' was the Motor City Madman's only Top 40 hit, reaching #30 in 1977, unless you count his time with Amboy Dukes.

Thin Lizzy - 'The Boys are Back in Town'

Before you come after me for naming Thin Lizzy as a 'one-hit wonder', you need to realize that this tune was really their only big hit in the United States. Are 'Jailbreak' and 'Whiskey in the Jar' also great tunes? Yes, but 'The Boys are Back in Town' is the band's only true hit and is, without a doubt, one of my favorite songs of all time.
