The Minnesota Twins are down a starting pitcher as Opening Day approaches, after it was announced that Ervin Santana had been suspended 80 games for PED use.

Santana tested positive for stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance, according to ESPN.com.

The Twins had Santana slated to start their second game of the season, against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, April 8th.

Santana released the following statement, regarding his positive PED test:

I preach hard work, and don't believe in short cuts. I am very disappointed that I tested positive for a performance enhancing drug. I am frustrated that I can't pinpoint how the substance in question entered my body. I would never knowingly take anything illegal to enhance my performance.

The Minnesota Twins begin the 2015 season on Monday against the Detroit Tigers.
