Metallica are amping up the energy in late night this week as they continue playing a week-long residency on 'The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson.' Their second performance of the run found the band rocking out the classic 'Fuel.'

While the first residency night was heavy on Metallica, with jokes in the monologue and two interview segments featuring James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, the band's primary role on Tuesday's show was as musical guests.

Ferguson, with tongue firmly implanted in cheek, introduced the band by stating, "My next guests are a bunch of kids who are trying their luck at show business. Gosh darn it, they're just fabulous. They smell so great and they're clean." That was followed by a cut away shot of James Hetfield lifting his arm and smelling his armpit. As for 'Fuel,' it was its usual blistering self. You can check out the performance in the player above.

Stay tuned to 'The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson' throughout the week for more Metallica performances. The show airs at 12:35AM ET / PT on CBS.
