If the Rail Bridge in Bismarck Becomes a Pedestrian Bridge, It Needs One More Thing
As you have likely already heard, the train bridge in Bismarck will no longer be used by the rail system, so something has to be done with it.
Additionally, you may know someone has created a petition to turn the bridge into a pedestrian bridge with parks on either side.
The petition currently has over 1,000 signatures. If that plan does come to fruition, I think that bridge needs one more thing. We’ll worry about feasibility later but that bridge needs a Ferris Wheel.
Some people may not like a giant amusement ride erected high above the Missouri River but I think it would be awesome. And it is possible to build a Ferris Wheel over a bridge. The Chinese do it with the Tianjin Eye Ferris Wheel which sits above the Yongle Bridge.

This would give residents a different perspective of the Bismarck-Mandan area other than the observation deck at the Captiol which doesn’t even allow people outside anymore. You have to observe the capitol city through windows. And what good is it viewing any city in North Dakota without wind blowing in your face? That’s part of the experience of living here!
So even on a non-windy day (assuming such a day exists here in the Peace Garden State), you can feel a breeze from the Ferris Wheel.
The higher we can build the Ferris Wheel the better. Who’s with me?
