It's no secret that there is money to be made on the west side of North Dakota, so it may come as a bit of a surprise that the most affluent city in the state is actually on the east side of the state.

According to a new report from the Census Bureau, Horace is the most affluent city in North Dakota, edging out Williston, with an average household income of over $88,000. Williston sits at nearly $70,000.

These statistics were collected between 2008 and 2012, according to The Jamestown Sun.

The least affluent city in North Dakota is Belcourt, which boasts an average income of just $25,909.

Horace mayor Shane Walock believes that Horace's spacious riverside lots have attracted many affluent residents to his town.
