'Tis the season to cozy up by the fire, throw back a couple glasses of eggnog, and, if you're anything like me, watch some classic Christmas horror films.

Yes, while others are watching 'It's a Wonderful Life' and 'Miracle on 34th Street' for the hundredth time, I'm watching movies featuring murderers dressed as Santa Claus.

So, without further ado, here are five Christmas-related horror films you should watch to put you in the holiday spirit!

  • 1

    Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)

Easily one of the best known Christmas-related horror films, 1984's 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' follows the story of Billy, whose parents were murdered by a criminal dressed as Santa Claus when he was a child. As Billy grows older, he has visions of his parents' murderer, which leads him down a path of insanity. Soon, Billy himself is dressed up as Santa Claus, murdering all of those that have wronged him in the past (and some that haven't).

    Black Christmas (1974)

'Black Christmas,' released in 1974 and remade in 2006, follows a group of sorority sisters who just so happen to have a deranged murderer living in the attic of their house. They're picked off one by one by the mysterious killer, all while simply trying to celebrate Christmas. The plot of the remake varies greatly from that of the original.

    Jack Frost (1997)

Yes, there is another film named 'Jack Frost' released in the late 1990s, but the one I'm talking about doesn't star Michael Keaton. No, the 1997 horror film 'Jack Frost' features a convicted murderer involved in an accident with a truck containing genetic material. The material causes the murderer to fuse together with snow, creating a killer snowman. No, seriously. Watch the trailer.

    Krampus (2015)

I realized this one was just released, but I had the opportunity to see it and I really, really enjoyed it. 'Krampus' is the anti-Santa Claus and punishes children who misbehave, as opposed to bringing them gifts. When the child of a suburban family voices his displeasure with Christmas, Krampus arrives to torment his entire family.

    Gremlins (1984)

Though not exactly a horror movie in the same vein as the others on this list, 'Gremlins' does feature little monsters and it's set around Christmas, so it makes the list. Plus, who didn't watch that film and immediately want a mogwai? If you do get one, always remember, you can't expose it to sunlight, you can't get it wet, and don't ever feed it after midnight.
