A statistic report for the city released for 2017 show drugs continue to be the biggest problem facing the Bismarck Police Department according to the latest information.

The Bismarck Tribune is reporting drug offenses in the city of Bismarck has been on a steady rise since 2013. Last year the Bismarck Police Department arrested over 900 adults on drug charges and cited over 100 children on drug violations in 2017. Drug offenses and charges led the number of serious crimes reported in the city last year.

This represents a serious problem for the city and for the Bismarck Police Department. According to a spokesman for the police department, these numbers are troubling especially since the drug task force is already very busy. This is an area the police department will continue to track and tackle in the city.

In other crimes reported in 2017, shoplifting was up along with arrests for drug paraphernalia and aggravated assault was up slightly in 2017.

Statistics in other serious crimes showed an increase in forcible rape in the city.

The report showed a decrease in property crimes of motor vehicle theft and burglary.
