In 2016, consumer complaints against telephone companies and utilities declined.

Telecommunications complaints went down from the previous year. In 2015, there were 89 complaints against the company, CenturyLink. Last year, that number was down to 60. Prior to the decline, the North Dakota Public Service Commission filed a complaint against CenturyLink for quality of service. CenturyLink agreed to invest in infrastructure improvements in western North Dakota to help improve overall customer service.

State regulators say complaints were also down in 2016 for electric companies Xcel Energy, Otter Tail, and MDU from the previous year.
