While I would never call myself a comedian, I have had the opportunity to do a few stand-up sets in front of audiences here in Bismarck-Mandan and, luckily, have never really had to deal with a heckler.

I, honestly, don't even know if I'd know what to do if someone started heckling me. Thankfully, I've had the opportunity to watch countless comedians, including Jason James during a night at Dakota Stage in downtown Bismarck, handle hecklers and handle them well.

Hannibal Buress is a comedian that, obviously, handles hecklers very, very well. I can only assume that being a comedian for as long as Buress has only makes it easier.

In the video above, Buress is heckled during a show in Wilmington, Delaware and shuts the heckler down almost immediately, referring to him as a 'social terrorist.'

I think the best point that Buress makes during his handling of the heckler is that the guy is ruining the show for the other 1,100 people in attendance. Whether you're at a huge comedy show or a small comedy show, no one paid to hear what you have to say from the audience. They paid to have a fun night out with their friends, family, significant others, whomever Your yelling during the comedian's set is not only making a fool out of you, but it's also interrupting an otherwise fun night for the other people in the audience.

So, the next time you go to a comedy show, do me a favor, as a fan of stand-up comedy, and just don't say anything. Sit there, laugh, and enjoy the show.
